moschino f/w 2014

I'm sure everyone has seen Moschino's FW 2014 by now. Being Jeremy Scott's first effort for the house, everyone was waiting, perhaps with bated breath, to see what he would bring to the table.

He's always been known for his outlandish schtick (remember those ridiculous Adidas shoes with bloody wings sprouting off them?), so we shouldn't be surprised by this. But all I felt watching this show was an absolute sense of ridiculousness. It was weird and wild and maybe OTT (that's an understatement) but in conclusion I didn't really like it. Using gimmicks and taking your cues from other places... namely McDonalds, I don't know. That just screams tacky to me. All I could think of was 'Isn't the use of that M sign some kinda copyright infringement. It has to be. They're even known as golden arches for crying out loud'. I should feel excited and inspired when watching a fashion show, not vague confusion. Many people have loved this but honestly I don't. This is some Urban Outfitters level of designing right there. The cuts of the dresses were just off and is anybody really going to wear that?! Or well, maybe I just don't understand Jeremy Scott.

navy

Been loving navy a whole lot recently - especially coordinated with jeans. Did I mention how much I love baggy/loose jeans now?! So over the whole "skinny" look.. but this poses a problem as 90% of my jeans are of the skinny fit. SIGH. Oh well. Have also been using this bag a lot recently as it's big enough for all my junk (why I have so many things to bring out, I'll never know) and my other bigger bags have collapsed. Literally, the lining is all broken and such. Ew. Need to go bag shopping soon! I am always finding an excuse to shop..... woe is me. No idea why I started talking about navy and digressed on to talking about jeans.

scarf print

Gloomy weather has been making itself a permanent resident in Singapore and hence, the lack of posts these two weeks. I hate taking pictures under insufficient (and ugly, may I add) lighting. There was finally some decent sunlight two days ago! Wore this dress to attend Digital Fashion Week which I got tickets for. Felt a bit hesitant in wearing this honestly, the print is a tad too obnoxious for my liking..? But ah well, decided it looked fine in the end! I love love love shift dresses. I think I'm over the age of wearing dresses with a fitted bodice and skater skirts. Give me interesting cuts please! (I am not referring to meat... cuts just always sounds so butcher-y.)

On to Digital Fashion Week, I attended the Inspired by Nokia runway show, featuring local designers Max Tan, Mae Pang, Pauline Ning, SUNDAYS, and YOUYOU. It was pretty eye opening to say the least. This is my second "official" fashion show (attended FIDé Fashion Weeks approx two weeks ago, but no outfit pictures for that except on my Instagram because the lighting was TERRIBLE. Or maybe I have a lousy camera..), and it was quite an eye opener. I dream of attending the big four sometime soon.. well, baby steps they say, baby steps.

I absolutely loved Max Tan's collaboration with Nokia; his use of the all black jumpsuit meshed together perfectly with the bright yellows of the outfits. Feels like it really makes you focus on the clothes as there's nothing distracting (eg. the model's make-up, or face), and it fits in well with the whole "technological" aspect of this show. And it really fits in with his whole aesthetic: "Androgynous meets soft geometric forms: Experimenting with quirk cuts and expanding on extremely simple ideas, Max conjures up silhouettes that conceals the wearer’s form and exploring new shapes." (from Max Tan.) I am an absolute sucker for uniformity and congruence in fashion, it's refreshing to see that a designer is religiously following a theme and his ideal. Will definitely keep an eye out for him in this industry!

loose

Most people would agree that opposites attract - and in fashion this is true for some. A pair of loose pants like these may entail most to pair with a more tight-fitting top, but I like the whole loose top with loose bottoms look; it feels (and is) more comfortable to me and is more true to my aesthetic, I suppose. I rarely wear tight-fitting things... I don't know, it's just so hard to move around with it and you have to be extremely careful of unsightly bulges. But sometimes, I like the whole "tight" look as well. I really am a typical Libran (is there such a word, even?), aren't I. Have such love for these great pants, the drawstring is just the cherry on top. I love anything drawstring. Except drawstring bags. That gets a definite no from me!

isabel marant pour h&m

I know it's been a few weeks since the full lookbook for the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection came out, but I finally had the freedom of time to browse through and these are my favourite pieces. No surprise that my picks are mostly basics (how perfect is that t-shirt?!!! I sound like a broken record but IT IS A MONUMENTAL TASK TO FIND THE PERFECT T-SHIRT, OKAY); I am also in love with that pair of leather pants. However I am afraid of a Ross leather pants situation - those familiar with FRIENDS would know what I'm talking about - and the weather is such a deterrent. But the buttery soft leather on Nov 14 may just convince me to get it. Not to mention, those prints. Swoon. Am also loving the men's selection, is it a fashion faux pas to get menswear for myself? It might prove futile to resist. Only a month more to go!!

Currently trawling through eBay for 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target items.. what I do best on a dreary Sunday night is to spend money that I do not have. Shopping is my go-to excuse for a spot of cheering up before the Monday blues kick in, except not really, because I just really like pretty looking things.
